Looked-After Children

Our Looked-After Children programme, part-funded by the Department for Education, works with Local Authorities to encourage and support children who are either in care, or have been identified by their Local Authorities as being ‘in need’, to access boarding school bursary places.

Recognising that boarding will not be the right option for many care-experienced children/young people, we are expanding this programme to also explore opportunities at independent day schools for those children for whom this is more appropriate.

For looked-after children and children in need for whom a bursary placement is not suitable, our ‘SpringForward’ pilot is working to widen access to expertise, facilities, and outreach opportunities available at independent schools – for example, mentored academic uplift interventions and University preparation schemes.

'I am incredibly proud of the exceptional care that Bede’s provides to children who have faced great challenges in their young lives. Working alongside RNCSF and East Sussex County Council, we have built a successful model which helps transforms lives. This has been through outstanding pastoral care, an aspirational academic mindset and a truly collaborative approach with East Sussex, these fundamental pillars have enabled our success over the years in nurturing looked after children.'
